
Regardless of which word you stress when saying "You Call That Brave," Ms. Fridrich's new work is fresh yet sonorous, painful but still buoyant.
Sarah Fridrich, singer and pianist of Ms. Fridrich, comes from a musical family - one that liked to spend time by singing, playing, and dancing to music together. Growing up, a "no singing at the table" rule had to be implemented. On family road trips, singing along to everything from Dixieland to Tom Waits was more of a commandment than an option. "No one in my family had much money, and we weren't always the most functional bunch, but music was a constant," Sarah says.
With that inherited musical constant, Sarah had little choice but to make it her own. Seeking something beyond the role of music-as-a-past-time in her family, Sarah went to music school, studying jazz and classical piano while singing her original songs with a guitar in local coffee shops.
